Dubai has ordered closure of Nigerians account to check Money laundry

 

 A diplomatic row seems imminent between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Nigeria, following a directive by the country's central bank prohibiting Nigerians who do not work there from operating accounts in any branch of their local or foreign banks.
Nigerian journalist, Fidelis Mbah, disclosed this on Thursday May 7, 2015 with a series of tweets on his twitter handle, even as observers believe the move is partly to check money laundering activities of Nigerian politicians, a situation they say, has become common.
According to Mbah, those affected by the new policy include Nigerian politicians, students and business operators in the UAE.

Already, he continued, UAE banks have sent out notices to some of those affected, informing them that their accounts in the country's commercial capital have been closed without further explanation.
Continuing, he said "some Nigerian politicians have been hiding under the pretext of paying children school fees to smuggle millions of dollars into the UAE."
To signpost the seriousness attached to the directive, all such Nigerians whose accounts were closed following the policy, have been issued cheques equivalent to the amount they have in their accounts.
Also, all account holders reportedly have five working days to cash their monies or forfeit them.
Reacting, Director General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Muda Yusuf, told Daily Independent on telephone, Thursday night, that the decision is commendable, as must have resulted from a realisation by the UAE monetary authorities that so much slush funds laundered globally flow through Dubai, a major financial hub. This, he noted, is why there is the possibility that corrupt people would want to take money from their countries and put it there before now.


He said the decision would bring sanity to the movement of funds globally, noting that the way to curb corruption is to holistically check the movement of money.
He also noted that unlike in the U.S and in Europe where it has become difficult to move money around, all attention has been on taking such funds to Dubai. But since it is becoming difficult to take the money to there now, "we should now see how they will launder it locally.
"The tighter it is for them the better for all of us," Yusuf enthused.
Kehinde Phillip, a chartered accountant, also welcomes the development, as "it will be to the advantage of our country. Stacking money in another country will add pressure to the U.S Dollar.
"With the new measure, Nigeria will be able to conserve more foreign exchange to the benefit of its citizens," he said.
For Anor Anyanwu, former Executive Director of Mainstreet Bank, the action would affect "those who are not clean and I believed that before such a decision should be taken, the authorities in Dubai would have done their due diligence and 'Know-Your-Customer (KYC). Those whose money are clean should not fear, but those involved in illegitimate activities" are the targets.

When asked what the government of Nigerians should do as a follow up action, Anyanwu said the Federal Government can request from the UAE authorities the list of its citizens involved, "I am sure that those involved may have stolen the money from government. Though, it may take a long time to do this, considering the laws in Dubai, but I am sure the country can benefit from it too."
He, however, stated that some banks in the country also routinely conduct such KYC exercise and take drastic steps too.
Responding, Rasheed Alao, a lecturer of Economics at the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, said the decision is welcome, at a time Nigerians are expecting the incoming government of Muhammadu Buhari to fight corruption.

David Mark blast Prophets

The Senate President, David Mark has criticized the prophets and men
of God who mislead Nigerians with false prophesies. He called on them to apologize to Nigerians, because according to him, many
Nigerians had fled to their hometown while the rest run away from the country thinking there would be ‘war’ and bloodshed. He also went
ahead to call them prophets of doom, saying they speak nothing but lies.

His words
“On election day, people thought that the fight was going to be one that had never been seen in this country before, but God heard our prayers, the election came and went, no major incidents. Results were announced and President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat even before the final result and congratulated
General Buhari. I think this is God’s way of telling Nigerians that he has put us together and we must remain one united country.
Those who were predicting that this country will be gone should apologise to Nigerians; there were so many prophesy. The
problem with all these prophets is that when things do not go their own way, they find another way of coming back and telling
us that what they meant was this, they spoke in tongues and we did not understand and they averted the doom through prayer
deceiving gullible Nigerians. As a nation, we have risen beyond the wishes of all these prophets of doom, but what is more
important is that we have established a firm root of democracy in
this country,” he said.

OPC leader Gani Adams in trouble over PDP largesse - 1.6 Billion Naira

National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples' Congress (OPC), Gani Adams has been queried by the National Coordinating Council of the organisation to explain what happened to the N1.6 billion campaign fund he allegedly collected from President Goodluck Jonathan and the six million votes he promised the president.
In a press statement in Ibadan, spokesman of the Council, Comrade Adesina Akinpelu said, "one of the factors that contributed to President Jonathan's defeat in the South-west was his romance with characters like Gani Adams."
Akinpelu described his purported suspension from the congress over allegation of working for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as laughable, insisting that he remained an active member of OPC at both the state and national level.

He maintained that as one of the founding fathers of OPC, he had contributed in many ways to the "liberation of Yoruba people from oppressors, and it was based on this principle that myself and some conscious members of the congress decided to challenge Adams' decision to sacrifice Yorubas for pecuniary gains".
While accusing Gani Adams of turning the OPC into his personal fiefdom and sowing the seed of disunity among members, Akinpelu said the National Coordinating Council of OPC will liberate the congress from Adams and will not allow him to start another war within the congress.
"It is on record that Gani Adams collected N1.6billion from President Goodluck Jonathan to work for him to be re-elected. We are not in any way against President Jonathan, but what we are against is mortgaging the future of Yorubas", he said.
Akinpelu, expressed surprise over the description of Buhari's victory in the March 28 presidential election as the will of God.

Akinpelu said; "Like a man who seems not to have any decency left in him; he made a fast u-turn on Buhari, the man he once detested. Now in the world of Gani Adams, Buhari has become another god to be worshiped for pecuniary gains. He described Buhari as Nigeria's Abraham Lincoln. In as much as we are not against anybody or group from congratulating the new president-elect; we are only using this medium to further showcase the real Gani Adams as an opportunist using OPC for selfish purposes. Here is a man who for selfish purpose danced naked in the market square when he staged a macabre protest calling for the removal of Professor Attahiru Jega as the chairman of INEC. Today, that same Jega that Gani Adams called many names is now the man of the moment. The entire world is celebrating Jega for ensuring credible election in Nigeria. In decent societies, the likes of Gani Adams and his cohorts would have buried their faces in shame but because they are second-class citizens with inferior scholarships; they still think Yoruba people are fools whose collective intelligence can be toyed with".

Jonathan avoid blood bath in Nigeria- TB Joshua

Prophet T.B. Joshua, on Sunday said he told the outgoing Nigerian p​residen​t, ​Goodluck Jonathan, that he would lose ​last week’s presidential election.
Mr. Joshua said he ​sent his ​message to the President several week before the election.
“I want to use this moment to congratulate Nigerians in our midst here,” Mr. Joshua began in a message to his multi-national congregation, televised live via his Christian network Emmanuel TV.

Alluding to his prediction a week to the election that the dark cloud he saw covering Nigeria was lifting, he said that a bloody ‘war’ would have ensued if not for the prompt concession of power by President Jonathan.
“Look, Nigeria wanted change – everyone was yearning for change.

An attempt to stop change leads to war, to a bloodbath… If Nigeria knows what we have overcome, we would dance​,​”​ Mr. Joshua said.​

Mr. Joshua praised Mr. Jonathan’s tenure insisting that he had served his nation well despite the immense security challenges.
“I really want to salute President Jonathan.

The President has served; he has done his best. It was just the season of crisis – and unfortunately he found himself at the lead in the season of crisis ​,​”​ he said.​
The cleric said ‘God’ spoke to him with a message for Mr. Jonathan several weeks before the general elections.
He said God told him -“This message should be delivered to your president, that whatever the outcome of this election, his regime has come to an end. He should accept to save the lives of millions,” he told the congregation.
Mr. Joshua claimed he called Mr. Jonathan by phone, adding that he had previously shared with him many revelations about Nigeria which eventually came to pass.
Insisting the seriousness of the revelation was such that it had to be relayed personally so as not affect votes, Mr. Joshua said Mr. Jonathan promptly sent a close aide to meet the cleric.
After the presidential aide had worshipped at his church during a Sunday service, Mr. Joshua said he met him and relayed the revelation that Mr. Jonathan’s regime had come to an end. “Soft landing – that is the language I sent to the president,” he told attendees.

Mr. Joshua described President Jonathan as a man who ‘has a heart for God’, revealing that he even spoke with the Nigerian president shortly before his historic concession call to President-elect Mr. Buhari.

“I said to him, ‘Your Excellency – all you need to say is thank You, Jesus, even when it seems there is nothing to be thankful for.
He said, ‘Thank you, man of God’. Before I knew it, I saw the news on CNN that he had congratulated his opponent ​,​”​ Mr. Joshua said.​
He prayed that people from the ‘South-South’ region in Nigeria where President Jonathan hails from would understand that ‘their son has become a hero’, adding that his actions prove the region is after a united Nigeria.

Mr. Joshua reminded his congregants that he had given a similar message in 2010 to Laurent Gbagbo, the former President of Ivory Coast.
“In a vision, I saw crisis – thousands of people being killed in Ivory Coast – just because of the outcome of the election,” he said to congregants.

After sending the message across to the then Ivorian leader, a delegation of government figures and presidential aides was dispatched to Nigeria.
“I told them that whatever the outcome of the election – whether the popular or unpopular voice of people – our President should concede. His regime has come to an end,” Joshua reminisced. According to the cleric, Mr. Gbagbo had personally called him regarding the prediction, looking for an avenue to avert it and inviting him to Ivory Coast. Joshua insisted that nothing more could be done.
When Mr. Gbagbo refused to concede power to Alassane Ouattara in the controversial 2010 elections, a bloody onslaught ensued leading to the deaths of thousands and his eventual incarceration and public disgrace.

Mr. Joshua also told his faithful how he had personally warned  MKO Abiola that God was not backing his presidency in the ill-fated Nigerian elections of 1993 despite overwhelming public support in his favour.
He further recalled how, as a young man, he met the former Governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, and told him that his beloved daughter was close to the grave. Both revelations came to pass, he said.

The cleric added that his prophetic ministry is the reason he does not take sides in politics. “That is why I don’t belong to any party. All the parties are my own. I love everyone. If I belong to this party and the message of God is now against that party, how will I present it – when no one knows the mind of God? It is better I am free to deliver God’s message.”
He said that material gain was not his mission and that no exchange of money can be involved when it comes to spiritual matters such as prophecy.
“I am a material to be used that will not cost you any money. I am afraid to collect money from you because if I collect it, it will affect the gift and grace of God in my life.”

Mr. Joshua prayed for the new government to be led by the All Progressives Congress. “Join me to pray for the new government, headed by President-Elect Buhari. Ask God to give our President a hearing heart – a heart that will listen to what the public is saying and want to know God’s opinion,” he said.

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) at the weekend unveiled a car that was manufactured by the institution's Department of Mechanical Engineering.
While unveiling the car to journalists, the Head of Department, Dr. Mohammed Dauda, said the car is environment friendly.
Dr. Dauda, who doubles as the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, also said that the car would participate in this year's 'Shell Eco Marathon Competition'.
"In addition to federal government's automotive policy, I must say that the reason we started this (manufacturing of the car) came from Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited. They invited ABU to participate in what they call Shell Eco Marathon
Competition. The car should be one that consumes little fuel but goes long distances. This competition is held in America, Europe and Asia and we are participating in the European one in Netherlands in May this year. All materials used for this car were sourced locally," Dr. Dauda said.
